Making the Indu Wrap Pants.

Greetings to all my friends and I hope you are traveling well and happy.
Designer Stitch has just released a fabulous pants pattern – the Indu Wrap Pant – and it is a jersey knit pant pattern and it consists of only 3 pattern pieces. Plus it takes only about 15 minutes to sew up !!!

The Influence of the Indu Wrap Pants.

The above photo on the left was a pic I spotted on Pinterest a good 12 months ago and I really loved the urban and edgy vibe that the design conveyed. Plus I thought I knew it would look fabulous on a myriad of sizes as all my patterns cover size
(AU/UK) 6 – 26
(US) 2 – 22
(EU) 34 – 54
And when looking at Repertoire – a New Zealand designers web site – this week I spotted a very similar design that they had just added to their collection. (pic on the right)

Styling choices of the Indu’s.

When I was developing the pattern for the Indu Pant I knew that not everyone would want the 2 draped sides so I decided to offer an alternative – tapered straight through legs – that are a beautiful and figure flattering alternative design to leggings. What I never thought of was a combination of both. When testing my patterns I let my testers do whatever they want with the pattern as the files they receive are the final pattern – all fitting and sizing is set in concrete.
I loved how my testers thought “out of the box” – using the pattern to create a single leg drape of the Indu’s. Both Stacey and Amy (below) made this version and I just loved them when their photos were forwarded to me.

 Printed Jerseys.

This is just a small selection of printed jerseys available from an online retailer in Australia. https://textiletraders.com.au/collections/jersey
I used the first print in the above pic for my sample Indus and they fall beautifully. They have a 4 way stretch at 50%.

One of my pattern testers used a fabric from Mood fabrics – https://www.moodfabrics.com/fashion-fabrics/stretch-and-knits/jersey-prints – and they have an international postage service.

Another online retailer is The Fab Clique who offers short runs of printed and plain jerseys – https://www.thefabclique.com

Plain Jerseys.

Both versions of the Indus look fabulous in both a plain and printed jersey. Above is a pic of rayon jersey knit that I also purchased from Textile Traders – https://textiletraders.com.au/collections/rayon-jersey-knit. It has such a beautiful soft handle and is a beautiful fabric to sew.

Sewing with Jersey Fabrics.

Just a few points when sewing the Indu’s with jersey fabrics

  • Use Ballpoint needles as they have a rounded tip which pushes through the knit fabric without spearing the fibres.
  • Glass head pins are lovely and fine so are easy to pin through the knit fabric.
  • Use a stretch stitch on your domestic sewing machine. Do not use a straight stitch – your seams will snap when stretched on the body!
  • Or alternatively use your overlocker/serger machine which utilizes 4 to 8 spools of thread that gives a sturdy flexible stretch stitch.
  • Use a walking foot – The walking foot literally walks the fabric through your machine. With a set of top feed dogs the walking foot allows for an even feed of your fabric and alleviates the top fabric from “traveling” as you sew.
