Hello, here is Marieke from the Netherlands.
I made my Yvette dress to take it with me on vacation. As I also want to wear it in autumn I made the 3/4 sleeve length- which I actually always choose because I just love 3/4 sleeves lol.
Anyways, this dress is so devine! Although the dress is an easy sew the keyholes in the neckline are making it so special! You can choose any fabric, plain or with print and wear it for every occasion.
The fabric I used I saved for a special dress- well this one ^^- and I couldn’t be more happy!
I indeed worn it on vacation a couple of times- I even went with my dress in the ocean. I would not recommend that especially, but it does feel great, gives a glorious feeling and actually worth to do it once too, lol.
As I said before, it is an easy and quick sew. Just don’t hestitate the keyholes and just use your iron ^^
Only one warning: be aware of tons of compliments! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi! My name is April and I live in North Central WI, in the USA. For my dress I went with a double brushed poly purchased from Girl Charlee (aff link: http://www.girlcharlee.com/create_account.php?refid=112735) a few years back but they have plenty of other awesome florals. For my solid blue top I used a 95/5 rayon spandex purchased from Olgas Closet. When I went to do my keyhole bindings I found it easiest to attach the first part with my serger as that gave me my perfect 1/4″ seam allowance to use when folding it over to top stitch. I made one top and one dress version and the only thing I had to modify to fit my body was the bust dart placement. I tend to have to raise them up a bit, perhaps due to my height of 5’7″? I had a lot of fun wearing this out and it made me think of my little girl days as there is plenty of twirl in the skirt! I hope you enjoy making one, or two, or more 😊 just as much as I did! Hi, it’s Beck from Melbourne, Australia. My gorgeous Yvette dresses were made from rayon spandex and a lightweight cotton spandex, both from the local fabric chain Spotlight. I just love the drape with these! My tip for sewing Yvette is to take the binding slowly and use lots of pins to get a really neat finish. I sewed a short skirt long sleeved Yvette dress, and a longer skirt half sleeve dress. To achieve a great fit, I graded the waist and did a full bicep adjustment on the sleeve. It’s been a little chilly to wear my dresses yet, but I can’t wait to debut them for Spring. www.instagram.com/becksews

Hello, my name is Mieke. I’m from Belgium. It’s the first time I tested for Designer Stitch, but I already have a lot of pattern from it. I love testing because I always learn something from it.
I used a black (with red balls) punta that was for a while in my stash. I bought it at http://naaimachinesstael.be
My tip: just take your time to make the keyholes and neckline, because it’s so beautiful when they are perfect.
My style is a bit retro I think with high heels. Ready for a cocktail party.
No fit alterations were necessary, it was just perfect!
I was already wearing the dress for the pictures and my husband likes it. I will wear it when the weather is not so hot like now because the fabric is more for the mid-seasons or winter with a jacket on it.

Hello! My name is Sue and I live in South Dakota. Can I just start with how saying much I love my new dress? I used a DBP for my version. To me this beautiful print screamed fall weather, so I chose the version with the elbow length sleeves for my dress. This fabric was purchased from Knit Pop. My sewing tips for creating the Yvette are to really take your time on the tear drops. They are the star of the show, so to speak. I experimented with using a fusible knit stabilizer on openings and found it was better to not use anything at all other than take your time and sew carefully. Press very carefully every step of the way and again, sew slowly! Also measure around your neckline and compare those measurements to the pattern. I had to lower the neck by 1/4″ all the way around. I am 5’7″ so I always need just a bit of length between my bust and waistline, so I lengthened that part by 1/2″ both on the front and back bodice. It has been so hot since I completed this dress and I just haven’t wanted to wear any sleeves at all, so I haven’t worn it yet. I plan to as the weather will change soon! In addition to the dress, I made 2 tops that I can’t wait to wear! One is solid white, and in my book, you can’t have too many white knit tops.

My name is Synthia and I live in Central California. I just adore the Yvette dress and top. I sewed up the top version with 3/4 sleeves, I wanted to have multiple uses for the Yvette design, with the top I can use with skirts or pants. I love the 3 keyholes design, very unique. I used a cotton jersey type fabric. I sewed up a muslin and found I needed to recut the front bodice with a wider neck and I used a d cup the 2nd time around, perfect fit for me. I also hacked the skirt part of the dress to make a skirt by adding a 1″ elastic to the waistband. Tip; sew a muslin to get a great fit for you. Love this design Ann, thank you for your beautiful designs. https://sewsynsewn.blogspot.com https://www.facebook.com/Synthia20000

Hello DesignerStitch community. My name is Taryn and I hail from Cape Town South Africa. I used a print stretch fabric (DTY) purchased from a local store that sells fabric by weight called Fabric Friends. (The downside is that the fabric is not labelled so I do have to rely on my own knowledge and experience). To ensure the teardrops lined up perfectly when applying the binding and did not shift, I hand tacked the 2 edges together. I chose to sew up the longest dress length with long sleeves and fabric belt for trans-seasonal wear.
For fit adjustments, I graded between sizes for bust and waist. I have worn my Yvette and the neckline is beautiful and definitely a compliment grabber. As it is still winter, it is easy to wear under a jacket for warmth which does not hide the beautiful neckline. I would like to add a few Yvette tops to my wardrobe with different sleeve lengths as well. Interested to see what I get up to – feel free to follow my sewing and other creative adventures at

My name is Stacey and I live on the South coast of England.
I used a light cotton lycra for my Yvette dress.
My top tip would be to take your time on the neck line making sure you’re binding is nice and even.
I love dresses that hit just at the knee on me, so I made the second shortest length.
Thanks to cup sizes being included in the pattern I needed no alterations!
I love my Yvette dress and definitely need to make a top next.

Hi all I am Christina from Cape Town. For my Yvette I chose the elbow lenght top. I made 3, struggling to reach perfect keyhole. My advice for the Yvette would be to be very sure your binding measurements and width is exactly as the pattern says. Fabric choice makes a big difference as well, I found a softer viscose lycra with more drape to be easier for getting a soft feminine look, my fabric that was slightly more structure came way more fitted in style.
As it has been cold here my Yvette has not made it into public without a jersey over😆
Today I have paired it with a skinny denim , looking forward to the compliments I get when wearing my DS items.

Hi, I’m Genevieve and I live in England. I used a poly knit but I am not too sure because it’s been in my stash for ages. It is soft and stretchy and fitted the requirements for this pattern. My top tip for sewing your Yvette is to pin pin pin those cutouts and go really slowly. Accuracy is key. I chose the make a dress, just below the knee – the middle length. I made a size 3D but I graded to a size 5 waist. I actually wore my beautiful on holiday in Portugal, where my I tools my phots and was complimented by everyone on how beautiful my dress was. I can’t wait to make a few tops too and possibly another tea length dress.

Hi everybody, it’s me, Christine from the Neatherlands. I used a light viscose knit for this dress and it turned out so nice!! I bought it at my local market.
When sewing the Yvette, the only challenging part is the neckline. My advise: go slow and don’t worry!
I made my Yvette as a dress in the midi length. The skirt made me do a lot of twirling 🙂 As usual I made it in size 4 with C-cup bodice. Because I know the fit is going to be amazing every time.
Just the other day when my husband took me out for dinner I’ve worn the dress and everybody kept telling the fabric looks a bit like a Greece pattern.
I’m going to make one as a top because I like the neckline so much. If you want to see more of me, go have a look at https://www.instagram.com/stienmakes

1. My name is Efrat and I live in the South East of England.
2. I used viscose lycra Jersey that I bought at Tia Knight Fabrics.
3. Follow the instructions, sew slowly and pay attention around the keyholes. If you are making the dress, hang it for a few hours before hemming because it will ‘drop’, then level the dress and hem.
4. I made the elbow length sleeves and knee length skirt.
5. As always I had to grade the pattern so it will fit my pear shaped body. The top of my bodice is size 7, the waist is 9. The top of the skirt is size 9 graded to size 11.
6. Not yet! It’s so hot at the moment in England that I haven’t had a chance to wear anything with sleeves.
7. I want to make several tops with the longer sleeves, probably from cotton lycra and will try to make a maxi dress if I can find the right fabric. Maybe a stretchy thin velvet?
