Greetings Allison F here. So, you want some tips for making the Kailin top? First tip, do it! Such a fabulous blouse.
Begin with measurements and fabric. Get current measurements of the wearer to select the correct size or sizes. Also, be sure to read the page that explains how to select the correct cup size. Then fabric, that is going to be really important for this project. The weight of the fabric alone is insufficient to determine if it will be right down this top. This top requires fabric that has flow and drape. Also, get the correct weight of interfacing. The collar and front bands do require support but should not be stiff. I choose sew interfacing for this project as I was concerned about fabric damage from a top hot iron with the iron in type.
When you are ready to begin, make sure your pins are sharp and your scissors are sharp. Cutting light, drapey fabric with scissors that are not sharp is going to create issues. If you use pins to pin your pattern to your fabric, they must also be sharp to prevent pulls.
This blouse is not difficult, it does require attention to detail. You will want to iron as you go. Keep checking the iron temperature, every single time making sure it is cool enough. Using a pressing cloth for lightweight synthetic silky fabrics would be even better.
I have currently made 3 Kailin blouses. The two photographed at the moment are a green jacquard purchased from Joann Fabrics and a deadstock from a friend that was gifted to me. The deadstock has sat in my stash for a long time waiting for just the right pattern.
The green jacquard was made for my young adult daughter. She paired it with a natural colored sweater skirt and a pair of boots. Her blouse has the collar and the sleeves with the elastic ruffle.
My blouse has the stand up collar with a more dramatic button cuff. I was fortunate to find the exact right button in my button collection for this blouse. I paired mine with a fitted pencil skirt, chain belt, and classic pumps.
At this point neither of us have worn them other than for pictures. But, we absolutely love them. I have a third one already made up for myself. Bright red charmeuse purchased from
Vogue Fabrics . Planning a simple long skirt for the holidays to go with this one.
This blouse is perfect for so many wears, sure to be both a staple and an evening out blouse! Happy sewing

Hello Lovelies, this is Brenda from the Netherlands.
For this test I made a lovely blouse in a viscose from www.driessenstoffen.nl. My version has the stand-up collar. I did my usual alterations for length and shoulders. The only thing I changed besides those are that I’ve tacked the front a bit closed, for modesty. I haven’t worn it yet, it is kind of sweater weather over here, but soon I will put it on when I go into the office.
If you take the time on the front it is not difficult and you will get a beautiful result.

I am Deidre and I live in Brisbane Australia. I made three versions as I love this top. Two are the short sleeve for our hot summer and one is sleeveless (that was unintentional as there was a cutting error but it worked out well) all have the collar stand alone – I love this look and it works well for the heat.
One is a lovely rayon from Spotlight. It was great to see and is nice and floaty. The sleeveless version is a vintage lightweight cotton. The last version is silk chiffon. It is beautifully floaty but was super fiddly to work with the fine silk.
Make sure to transfer the markings for the neckline and collar and it will come together well.
Kailin has already been in regular wear to work and has collected compliments. The silk version will be worn to an upcoming Christmas party.

I’m Karen from Belgium. When I saw Kailin for the first time, I knew I had to make it. It didn’t took me long to find the perfect fabric for it. I chose a wonderful rayon with large expressive flowers. I chose a classic look with collar and sleeve split. You can wear the blouse in different ways, loose, tucked-in or even with a belt. I love to combine it with a straight skirt or jeans. More pictures can be found on www.instagram.com/_sewkaren_

Hi everyone! I’m Sandra from the Netherlands.
I love my new Kailin blouse. I used a viscose fabric. Its comfortable to wear and easy to sew. Just follow the steps. I wanted a style which I can wear to work. Its almost winter in the Netherlands. When spring will return, i definately will make more ❤️

He everyone,
I’m Shardee from the netherlands.
The kailin is a beautiful top.
With a lot off collar variations , so you won’t have 2 of the same in your closet.
It’s not hard sewing it, but I definitely recommend to make a toile of the body. So you can make it fits you’re body perfectly.
I styled it with a fake leather skirt and heeled boots.
This set I will wear with Christmas
I used a satin silk in old olive , from www.megastoffen.nl

Hi, my name is Marieke and I am from the Netherlands.
The Kailin blouse is just such so a trendy pattern!
The details are fabulous and with all the options you can make a ton of them!
I had a hard time choosing the fabric for my final blouse and doubted between a couple. I decided to go with a striped viscose which feels like a lightweight silk.
And that was the correct choice! The result is a flowy, lightweight blouse and is looking good tucked in or just hanging loose. I also think it would look great on a skirt with a belt- so I have to try that out!
My husband is very pleased as well, he especially likes the V-neckline lol.
I had a great time sewing the blouse. It isn’t hard to sew but fun because of the details and was calming to go through the process step by step.

hi it’s Christine from the Netherlands. I made my Kailin in a green viscose. I think I bought it last year at
Driessenstoffen.nl . The pattern is not hard to sew, but you need to be precise so the collar fits the neckline. I made the longest puffsleeves, so I can wear it all year round and I made size 4 cupsize C and no alterations were needed. For the cold weather I made a vest to go with my kailin. The next Kailin is ging to be a fun print and short sleeves for summer.

Hello, my name is Ada Marie, I am from Puerto Rico (an island in the Caribbean). I used a polyester silk that I bought at a local store. One tip that I can recommend is to use a flexible interface for the neck… I was doing the front tie collar option, Long Sleeve with Elastic Inset Cuff, without any alteration. And of course I want to do the other options!!
